I ride for children that cannot. This is me at age 2 - healthy and riding a bike (I started my training for this REALLY early!!) ![]()
Cancer does not discriminate. Childhood cancer robs the quality of life out of every child, sibling, parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin…..affected by it. A catastrophic path unfolds. We are going to make a difference. I am part of that team.
Sports and physical activity played a large role as I grew up in Montreal’s West Island area. Health and wellness continue to be extremely important to me in both my personal and professional life. Many take their good health for granted - that is until something goes wrong, or you get concerning test results or news from your physician. Today, you can take charge of your health and do something about it.
Personal, family, and friends’, experience with cancer has left a profound and humbling impact on me. Although a couragous battle with a tenacious beast, some make it through; sadly, some do not; some continue to struggle; some put it in the past and take on the new day.
I began running when I was in graduate school at McGill University (M.Sc Exercise Physiology). One of the best ways to get time with my advisor, Dr. David Montgomery, to discuss my Thesis, was to go charging up a local landmark, Mount-Royal. He ended up doing most of the talking the first few weeks! I was hooked. From there I literally never looked back and continued to train and run in many marathons over the years. I loved every minute of it.
An unfortunate, multiple, spiral fractures injury left me with 1 plus year rehab following surgery to repair the damage (it’s close but I almost have more hardware in my leg than my bike!).
I have learned that the power within - our own passion, desire and drive, can help us overcome challenges and accomplish great things as individuals. The power of family, friends, colleagues, community will help us all make a difference in the lives of children living with and beyond cancer.
Stop and smell the ocean, pine scented forest, rain….![]()
